Topic: making friends as a job

Postmortem !!Qe8ScDbX+ started this discussion 12 years ago #35,498

So, right now I am building up a contact list for my parties. My plan is to have a guest list of about 100 people who are beautiful and or really captivating in another obvious way.

The idea is you let these winners in for free, they'll bring a friend or two, the club is packed and also hot and all that. A good time is had, word gets out that my parties/that club is the place to be, everyone wins forever. As I go the more interesting people I meet and take along, I take-over bigger and bigger clubs until I am all powerful. I then take my recognition and clout to create a powerful brandname, that way when I move cities I just get someone else in-company to run things for me where I left. I can also just let other people throw events with my name attached to it for a price. Money everywhere.

But back to step one, making lots of friends, see when making friends becomes a job, it feels like a job. You'd think chatting up pretty girls, and telling them about your fantastic parties would be fun, it isnt, it's a damn chore. It's not like I really get rejected either. Most people love my ideas, and if not just give a sort of "I dont really go to clubs" sort of response, which a lot of times is probably actually the case. It's just I dont know, it's just creating the world's most superficial relationships. It isnt like im personally interested in them, I just need their looks for my business to work out, but I pretend like they're so fucking special anyway. Because you know, I dont plan on paying any of them. It's grating.

people are going to pay you to ask other people to go to the same club over and over again?

@previous (B)

No. So I need a guest list, and a business proposal. I take this to a nightclub, and throw a party there, the club and I make some sort of agreement on my cut, like I get the door, and they get drinks or similar.

The guest list is 100 people or so who get free door, and maybe a free drink (whafever I can work out), these people will still inevitably buy alcohol allowing the club to profit from that. Everyone else who comes in is a paying customer and my money.

After a party or two I just have a night at a venue that automatically draws a crowd effort free, I take money from this.

From there I expand to other venues, etc., etc.

Ya gettin me?

But what do you do when some other upstart gets popular and your star fades? Fame is an ephemeral thing. Look at Michael Alig, for example. Even if he hadn't done that stuff with the dismembered body and Drano® how long would his fame have lasted? Eventually the Club Kids fad would have faded after a year or two and something else would have gotten big.
> when I move cities I just get someone else in-company to run things for me where I left.
That's not going to work, though in such a you-oriented business. You are the product, you have to be there.
> I can also just let other people throw events with my name attached to it for a price. Money everywhere.
If you sell your brand like that, it will get whored out and eventually it won't mean anything anymore.

You make good points, in fact further drive your point home, Alig isn't even all that famous. Most people nowadays who say they are fans of him are actually just fans of the movie Party Monster and Culkin as him. No one knows who Ernie Glam is or the Wonder Twins or that RuPaul was a club kid. My father who is almost exactly as old as Michael just barely remembers any of it.

Ideally I'd like to start up a more longstanding business, a nightlife centered publication would be interesting, the ability to decide in part who becomes the next star would be very cool. Or even just opening up my own bar or restaurant. (Nightclubs almost never last, and are as shortlived as the promoter sometimes) But certainly something as a jumping point for new things would be nice.

I still want to get a degree as a back-up, preferably psychology actually, as being a therapist is my back-up dream.

You'll need a unique selling point for a publication. Like, a niche that's not adequately covered. Why do I read your newsletter, and not the one next to it, which has been around for a while and covers clubbing pretty well?

The basis of your plan sounds ok to me - Nothing ventured nothing gained - As long as you plan for the eventual fail as Metæ points out as wot happens - If you do not over invest and plan to end it B4 IT ENDS U

Sure go for it. - You could even come up with a crowd funding idea to fund your venture. I mean if this one that only wanted $10 to make a simple bowl of Potato Salad could raise
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/324283889/potato-salad/posts

5,970
Backers
$49,344
pledged of $10 goal
19days to go

Just about any sound idea is possible - By the way that mass of money is going to be eating up buy humongous tax's because the guy who did this for fun/prank/ did not structure it for such success and now is stuck hiring people like becky n CPA's and other professionals at very high dollar per hours fees just to hold on2 some money - IF you use such crowd funding be sure to ask me for a Forbes website about the Potato salad guy and things he should have thought of or might do now.

If hurting my feelings is your idea of humor then fine. You know what? Kirby might actually be with another guy right now, thats a real possibility, we've certainly been down this road before, and it makes my stomach churn. I dont want to be in the "which boy do I pick" arena of Kirby's again, but I fear that is what is happening. And it sucks. If that is the case then I should just leave, I have to learn my lesson at some point. But im really in love with her, immensily so, perhaps even foolishly so, and it's hard. Please try and understand. I dont have a lot of friends in real life im particularly close to, minichan as much as it dislikes me from time to time is always there.

No, I havent. It hurt so much when she cheated on me that I would never want to inflict the same on her. It bothers me even now to some extent, I forgave her very quickly, but if I really start talking about it I'll break down a little bit. Im not even mad at her for it though, it's hard to explain.

Of course, she expressed a lot of remorse for it, and it was her best friend, and she actually let go of the friendship at my request. However, she confessed to talking to him again. And later on I found out she was pretending to be single and flirting with a guy at her work.

But I feel so happy when I'm with her, and think very highly of her, other than this I am positive I could spend my life with her. But this is such a huge thing that it's all very confusing to me. I want so desperately for things to go well with her, for it to work out, but it's proving difficult. And every time I think everything is going perfectly something new happens to hurt me.

The talking to any ex is no problem UNLESS You make it one which will only push any girl into unhappy with you for controlling - You trust a Girl or you don't. Binary only!

> flirting with a guy at her work

Flirting is just being normal. You dare not tell me YOU stopped flirting with other girls when you were in relationship with Kirby or Lexi - I am one hell of a flirt and was 99% Monogamous - No need to repeat my 1% mistrake - Even Jesus made Mistrakes

> I asked her to marry me at one point for fuck's sake.

Look at the costly divorce she saved you from going through!!

Yep total 100% she not the girl for you - again how many tymes need I say - Do the Math

Not talking to an ex, talking to the guy she cheated on me with, thats a tad different.

Yeah, I flirt with people, but I tell them I have a girlfriend, and draw the line very quickly.

Any girl has the right to talk to whomever they want to - try and stop that and you end up being controlling. If she cannot be trusted then what is the point in continuing?

So good luck my work day is done - if its clear where you live 2nite its almost a full moon which is super close to Earth

I dunno man, talking to an ex never seems like a good idea to me. There will always be feelings there and it's so easy to reignite them.

Trusting someone completely is stupid -- people mess up even when they don't mean to. It's normal to build fences around your relationship because people do make mistakes sometimes. Flirting, talking to exes, etc. is just dumb if you care about someone.

Of course she should be willing to do this stuff herself and not be goaded into it. She doesn't sound like a very good person overall.

> talking to an ex never seems like a good idea to me

I wrote that from my own personal experience - Did not research if it is or isn't good advise. I just find it better karma to find a way to at least be nice to each other after the breaking up - I did but not in two of the most significant relationships in my long life. Could have done better IF I had listened to the Doctor I was dating who was a Head Shrink -

And you got me to thinking about Johns situation again - So in his case - the easy to reignite old feelings which wood drive the girl back to the ex - If she was really in love with John then she wood not want to reconnect with the ex. Just my point of view

> Flirting, talking to exes, etc. is just dumb if you care about someone.

Agree about the Flirting part because that gives the ex the wrong ideal

> She doesn't sound like a very good person overall.

You and I and others have tried to point that out to postmortem - Alas he still uses that brain in his penis to make all the wrong decisions for him.

That said I have let that same small brain do the same to me a couple of tymes - but my bigger brain upstairs took over and 6 weeks later I WAS out of there ~Zooooooom and never looked back
