Nono bleeding edge tech is more advanced than cutting edge tech and its called bleeding edge because it is actually a disadvantage to use it because it is too new and unrefined
people just decided it sounds cooler and more EPIC than cutting edge and use it as a replacement though i guess

There's no reliable way to tell in the present, you can only see in hindsight. For example, it's obvious to us now that Amazon.com is a real company and Webvan.com was just pissing away venture capital, but in 1999 how would you know? For virtual currencies it makes sense, I think, to buy in for some small amount in case it becomes the next Bitcoin. But even then, how can you be sure you won't get screwed in the next Mt. Gox scandal?

there must be enough people willing to run nodes
coins have been killed by sudden raises in difficulty, 51% attacks and hard forks

Start using nightly builds of some program you use regularly or sign up to install and test pre-release versions of some OS. You'll get the idea. It's fun if you like wondering why your OS keeps opening up the disk partition editor every time you search for printer drivers.
