Thanks Green! Our four-corner mod rotation has always picked my favorite time loops! I have to disagree though. I really liked Dawkins up until The God Delusion. His biology books are great. That's a bit of a strawman. A good argument can be made for that sort of viewpoint. Religion is a very divisive and constraining force in the world, motivating lots of bad things like aversion to progress, discrimination, and wars. It was useful at a time, when humanity needed uniting, but it's not really needed anymore. Its benefits can be gained in other ways and the problems it causes are pretty major.
So, that's why I think that it's a good thing for atheism to progress, and religion to disappear.

I think it's short-sighted to say that religion isn't at the root of any problems in the world, because it very much is. We can see it motivating all sorts of bad stuff throughout the world. Granted, were it removed, people may just find another reason to be an asshole. But overall there would be less of that sort of stuff going on, because there would be much less motivation for it. I think it's illogical to say that there would be just as much strife and division without religion, I don't think that humanity has some sort of arbitrary discord quota.

I don't really like being designated in an argument in terms of my race. Why not examine the ideas themselves, rather than as "a white guy saying" or "a black guy saying".
And, to clarify, I never advocated "stealing African people's identity". What I'm saying is that I think it's better to lean towards a more unified identity, that identity being humans.

But you get my point. I've seen plenty of black people wearing "We're all from Africa"-type shirts. The underlying message is that we're all the same. Maybe if we spent less time focusing on what separated us (and what we can find to become insulted by) we'd all be better off.

In my view, doesn't seem like you can go far wrong just treating people as people rather than a certain race. Yes, unintentional racism can happen, even if you're trying to avoid it, but I think it's still good to try to be impartial.
