Actually this film is based on an early draft of what became The VALIS trilogy, 'Radio Free Albemuth'.They did a Kickstarter to get the funds to have theatrical, DVD and VOD (probably Netflix, which already lists the move) releases.

It comes out in a week! June 27th, 2014.
If this film does well, they are planning to adapt the entire trilogy.

And I really want the see the entire arc of VALIS stories get film treatment.

Blade Runner was the better of the two but still managed to fuck it up pretty bad.
It is a general trend that PKD movies are nothing like the books, so when they do it right at all it's pretty amazing.

Many people like shitty movies, Catherine, yeah, i know. Have you read any pkd? Killer science fiction. The adaptations are terrible. Blade runner was OK but total recall was just dreck.
A scanner darkly was also bad

He really does have a point. PKD is good Sci-Fi.
Blade Runner was good because "Ridley motherfucking Scott... Harrison motherfucking Ford... etc."
Anyway the directing and stardom carried the shitty adaptation. They made a nice movie, but they still did a shitty job at adaptation.
Total Recall did a nice run in theaters because Ah-nold, duh-gubernator! He was once my Gubernator and I like watching his crazy movies as much as anyone, but he carried that movie. That story, as PKD told it in We can remember it for you wholesale would not have grossed Hollywood box office dollar one. Maybe with a great director... Hmm.. Maybe not. I don't know. The story was cool, and the movie does -fuck all- justice to the actual story line.
But PKD stories always sought to leave you with a: "Am I me, or have I been replaced with a robot appointed to think I'm me who's spying on the actual me living his life unsuspecting because I'm really a clone of me sent to spy on spies of future me and I'm only now learning this now?" The guy (The actual PKD) ran a flop-house in Santa Ana and worried about people stealing his drugs...
Anyway, I actually think Total Recall pulls the best "I am me?" mindfuck of the films so far. (Bladerunner does it subtley , but you have to be in on the story from the beginning and get things that aren't specifically mentioned... Watching David Lynch's Dune makes sense if you've read everything by Frank Herbert over and over, but -fuck guys- there aren't that many people who have read some obscure-but-award-winning sci-fi author! Calm down Ridley Scott!)
Anyway, Cathy... If You decide to eventually read or listen to audio books one day, then I would highly recommend PKD if you want to feel a little schizophrenic.
