I don't believe in a God or Gods, and I think proof of the supernatural should be knowable and demonstrable. If there were a God or Gods that wanted some worship why wouldn't they just come down and say it? If the supernatural exists, why are we still scratching our heads over the whole fucking deal? Wouldn't they just come down in a thunderstorm and say, "Yo, Worship us. We MAKE THUNDER!" or something?? The main reason I don't believe in anything is that there seems to be nothing to believe in. (The 100% certain there are no God or Gods seen here is wrong. A gnostic would, by definition, claim proof or knowledge of some deity or proof or knowledge of that deity's absence; a gnostic would, by definition, claim to have some knowledge.)
A "gnostic theist" isn't necessarily someone who is 100% sure there is a god but someone who thinks there is a God or Gods and that they or knowledge of them should be knowable. (e.g. Gods appearing before humans, intercessory prayer, performing miracles, etc.) While an agnostic theist could go his whole life without the faintest hint of God's existence and be happy, a gnostic theist might be worried that he never actually saw any miracles or prayers answered, or actual signs that his beliefs were grounded in his reality.
I feel like there's a bit of a split in what agnostic means too. Some (theist) agnostics claim to believe in God and maintain that God is unknowable. God can't be understood by humans anymore than a cockroach could be taught calculus. It's just not possible. You can't know God or understand God because it's just too complex and he rules a universe that is made up of everything and you should just go worship him and stop questioning shit. That's fine if you believe that God is unknowable and the holy mysteries will forever be out of your grasp and you should go on praying. (never mind that gnostic theists feel just about the opposite) I feel like: given that there is an all powerful God, then it should be able to provide me with some valid reason to believe in it. If materializing in front of me and telling me that I'm following the wrong path is what it takes... if nudging me into a a prayer circle as a child is what it takes... if threatening me with holy fire is what it takes... these should be small tasks for an all-powerful God who supposedly cares about everyone (except, the whole problem of evil) to handle.
If there were an all-powerful entity and it wanted us to do something, why would it not just come down and ask us? "Hey, humans! Just be cool for a while and treat each other like you want to be treated and then we'll fix you good up in the otherworld!"
Except pretty much every holy scripture everywhere says that. And no one actually does the "be cool" part and everyone does the hating people thing. So, the natural conclusion is that it's just some stupid fairy tale.
If religious people want to start acting like they want to help someone, anyone no matter their religion, lifestyle, beliefs, or anything else... (Because eHarmony is cool) you know just help someone out because they are human and show some basic respect without using it as an attempt to proselytize or impose your beliefs, then I suppose I can cheer that on. I have only rarely seen this though. :(

Right, but there's gnostic as it applies to belief in God (i.e. "God should be inherently able to be known") versus gnostic as it applies to the specific belief you personally hold regarding God (atheism or theism). Right? You can be gnostic in regard to God ("if God exists, that should be knowable"), but still an agnostic atheist ("I don't believe in God and I have no knowledge of Him").

Are you sure? I'd estimate that lots of atheists would define themselves that way. I myself do, in a way, as I'm certain in my lack of belief due to the lack of evidence for god, and my expectation that no such evidence is going to manifest in the future.

Well, no, I or anyone can't conclusively disprove the existence of such a being because it's a negative. It's intangible and unseeable.
However, when I am willing to say is that there is no compelling evidence for such a thing existing, nor is such evidence ever likely to surface. Therefore I believe in it as much as any other superstition or fabled invisible entity. I am certain that there is a lack of evidence for this thing existing, so I don't believe that it exists and, given the current evidence, I am certain in this belief.

There can be no absolute certainty like you said, because of "God's" very nature, but Christians (when disagreeing with atheists) often act as if this is what atheists arrogantly believe. There can never really be evidence God doesn't exist directly, but I can think of things that might fundamentally disagree with certain religions' ideas of God.
You can be 99.9% sure, but complete certainty in anything is impossible. Theists sometimes pretend this is what atheists believe.

I'll explain my thinking, a bit. This is probably a bit irrational of me, but I don't entirely like this concept of "oh, we don't believe but we can't be certain". I know that, logically, it's the correct answer in the case of something that can't be disproven, but it feels like some sort of validation of religion, almost. In practice, it's probably no different than a lack of belief in, say, an invisible pink unicorn. But yeah, probably just me being weird. I just don't like the idea of "throwing a bone" to religion, but that's probably not what actually happens.

Yeah, the terminology is sketchy at best, and people use it to mean a number of things. I think what my cat is getting at is that "gnostic" should refer to knowledge of the existence of God (independent of any belief that God exists) being knowable because the alternative (knowledge that God absolutely doesn't exist) isn't really possible.

Amen to that. "I'm not religious", is the phrase I tend to use with roving bands of people handing out religious pamphlets or anyone asking me about my beliefs.
