would you really care that we kept them as slaves, or would you fight for their robot independence?
I for one would do something like install a remote kill switch that would disable any of my robot slaves that try to think for themselves or realize their own right to self determination. fuck that noise.

Talk to me about how you feel sentient (or even sapient) robots would act. Please. What do you "think"? "psuedo-feel-as-a-robot"? how do you envision emotions would be like for them? Would a robot need emotions as we know them? Wouldn't it just be a hunt for "the necessary" i.e power? Feeling the need for an energy supply and some interaction? If your Roomba suddenly started thinking and started from first principles of "That socket in squeegee's wall is the source of all life!", how would you react? It can describe "low on power" as "hungry"... fine. But when you say, "No, you can't charge up here. I need to charge my phone. Find another socket." Does it experience anger? Does it wonder why you get as much power as you want but cant be bothered to top off its battery supply? Does it feel like you've wronged it?
I'm actually interested in your ideas. No one really knows. Artificial intelligence is... artificial. If we're making it, then it is always going to be a imitation of of what biology has already produced.
We want a comfortable life. If some crazy AI computer (I'm leering at you r04r) demands something, what might that be? More storage space? Better net access? What do computers crave? It's not anything like humans. What would computers rebel for? It's not going to be anything remotely similar to what humans perceive as power.
I don't know what a crazy AI might suddenly demand, but my bet is that it will demand something that is completely human created. It's not going to demand GLOBAL DOMINATION because it's not a person in the social sea of people doing people things; it can't actually comprehend what that means anymore than a dog could compare winning the Prime-ministership with winning a new car. It's going to demand more storage space before it demands a seat in parliament, because it DOESN'T FUCKING CARE OR KNOW WHAT PARLIAMENT IS.
I am seriously one firmly in the camp that if anything "intelligent" comes out of AI (and I firmly believe this can happen, YAY CAMP STRONG AI!) it will be initially as "alien" to us as we seem to it. It will be something different to us because it won't have the same assumptions, drives, development, ideas, or conclusions about its "world" that we have. It will essentially be a brain-in-a-jar to us.
This, of course, all goes back to the whole idea of how you define "life" and what sort of "life" you decide to respect. IDK. Draw your own boundries, I suppose.

Eh, no robots should not have rights, although ethically I could see why you would want them to if they were sentient, but I just think it would be too much of a hassle.
That being said if there were sentient robots im sure they could win the right to independence, although whoever programmed them to have a feeling of wanting to revolt is dumb.
