Topic: I pity my religious childhood.

I was a christian in a church. My parents are black and are from the south, so being forced to go to church is/was typical. I was baptized at around age 7, which is what ended up making me decide not go to church as an adult. I was baptized and all, so I had to begin reading scriptures in front of the church. An old guy that I trusted a lot would give me a chapter and verse to read every Sunday. I did this for years and hated it. Eventually, he gave me the strangest scripture in the bible that I had ever read. It read "Hath he not sent me to the men that sit upon the wall, that they may eat their own dung, and drink their own piss with you?" If I remember correctly, it was Isaiah ch36 v12. After reading it, I couldn't help but laugh aloud. I knew instantly that they heard my laughing, when I seen my parents coughing to cover up the sound of my laughter. The church goers declared that I wasn't really ready to be baptized, yet (thought that I was too immature). I still ended up reading many more scriptures after that day and remember talking with my head away from the microphone as a lesson learned. I won't have anything to do with church any longer after this tragedy. I'm sure the majority of people here are born atheists, so you never experienced that tragedy. Kudos to you.
