Alright, so: in the recent wave of YA books, almost all main characters are female. I don't care about that. What I do care is how they claim they're "Challenging gender stereotypes!". All the time, you see badass chicks, kicking ass, being better than guys at things, and kicking mysoginist faces. Have you ever read about a male main character who wears a dress? Who likes men? Who identifies as trans? No. Because while the female gender role is being challenges, the male one isnt.
