Halp. I'm trying to figure out my courses for next year. Also taking physics, chemistry, and calculus

Traditionally scholars learned both but it's not really required nowadays but if you have to choose one then I say Latin because you could make more use of it.

Latin makes a lot of sense based on easy transition to the other Latin based languages.
Ancient Greek? Only use I can imagine for it is reading Homer in the original version.

Ah yes the "latin based languages" such as? Newsflash: ancient Latin has very little to do with modern languages including those that stem from Latin, that would be like saying you learned old English to make sense of modern english

becky can testify to the many legal terms based totally on Latin. Where I live I am surrounded by people who work in Engineering or (Genetics Biology Drug research) - The later group is loaded with those who took Latin in school.

I took more then the normal load of Chem for Engineering cause of hobby as kiddlet - Made lots of explosives n rockets - Never took Latin nor do I remember any need in Chemistry.
So like why the question re languages unless you have to chose one?

I'm also going to do classics. Leaning towards Greek rather than Latin because I fucking love the mythology and think it'd be nice to study.

Reminds me its Greek Festival tyme. Just love Greek Festivals.
But let me ask you this given your study load. You could put off learning ancient Greek until after you finish school. This is how I look at it. If your serious about going into Chem? You could take more Chem courses and save the Greek for later. Using the language later may be fun but learning it is only going to add to your tough work load.

That does not answer the question re your NEED as in REQUIRED to take Latin or Ancient Greek
Don't no if its currently true but I remember when Oxford campuses with Engineering classes required Latin.

I fully support a degree in Chemistry because one can keep self fed and live in comfort. PhD not required
Classics? PhD required, unless you want to end up living like A certain person you know in China
Can Classics be combined with Chemistry? Currently a topic on TC about a book just discovered at Harvard ...But that is just not going to happen more then once in a life tyme.
