Project1999.org

You have plenty of time to download and patch. They are gonna have classic rare items dropping off of every mob (small chance, and trivial loot code so good for 1-50) but you could get a Guise, Rez Stick, Manastone, Thex Dagger, etc.

If you do, let me know your name. I can twink you a lil if you want.

It's completely free. You can torrent the titanium version. They say not to for legal reasons only. Just get the version that has most seeds. That's correct. I think I still have it on my comp so maybe I could send to you while I sleep.

It's everquest man. It was what wow tried to be but failed massively.

Unfortunately, wow became a huge fucking success ruining the MMO market as we know it.

Think of wow only you actually are afraid to die, and you have to work to get your gear and shitty players don't get to Mac level and the best gear simply because they can play a lot.

Some people have tried it and are completely new to EQ, but the graphics are from 1999, so... Yea.

I can play it on my netbook though.

Some people have got it working on their blackberry.

The class system was pretty interesting. I just hate the quest based advancement.

I like to have more interaction with other players. I only played like two hours in one of the beta events, though. What do you think of it?

I have really gotten into it. It handles a bit like wow, so it was easy to jump into. The class system is unique and intriguing enough to keep me going. There are no "wrong" builds so you can mix and match to find something that fits your play style. As you get further, zone invasions are incredibly social in that everyone in the zone can take place in fending off the invaders and defeating the invasion boss (basically a world raid boss). Guild advancement through quests keeps guildies working together and makes for a tighter knit group. PvP is fun in the sense that no one class is going to be able to overpower everyone. In wow, as a hunter in the first few brackets I could easily get 30 kills with 1-2 deaths. PvP in Rift is more group oriented. If you have a better group build, your team will most likely win (unless people are retarded of course). I haven't done a lot of dungeons yet, but the few I have done have been a lot of fun, expect to wipe though, a lot of the playerbase have come from wow and act like they are still playing it. The biggest flaw is that the Auction House has yet to fully develop so crafting is primarily self serving.

Are their penalties for dying? Is the PvE difficult or is it really just a pvp game with some cool pve random zone events (the invasion things)?

The penalty for death is fairly minor. You have what is called soul vitality. Each time you die it lowers, at first by increments of 10%, then more as it gets lower. Basically as your soul vitality gets lower you take more damage, and deal out less. It's more primarily a pve game with some fun pvp thrown in there. The questing can get boring, but with rifts opening at random, and planar invasions the game can keep you on your toes. PvE dungeons are a lot of fun. With groups having so much crowd control and support abilities they are harder then the dungeons in wow. Most bosses I've come across have been fairly straight forward (mind you I've only done the first three you come across as Defiant). Each boss generally has some mechanic that the party has to be able to get around or you will most likely wipe (the last boss in Foul Cascade is a gian spider that impregnates a random party member). The dungeons are extremely large and generally have some story to them so you understand why you are there and why you are killing what is inside.
