I got the player working with my cable remote, but I have no means of selection an option on either the main menu or on the DVD/Blu-Ray menu itself. The select button on the remote also goes back to the cable configuration instead of staying on the DVD configuration, yes, it's suppose to be a universal remote.

I can control it from the menu buttons on the player, but apparently the play button always gives me a "is not available" message on screen when there is a blu-ray disc inserted.

I guess I should post my remote. I found the image on Google Images.All works except for Play and Submit. They make the CBL button flash even after I pressed the DVD button.

Just go back to the store and check if they're supposed to come without remotes, which seems unlikely to me. If they are, they will likely sell a compatible remote. Even so, you seem to describe the device not working at all with the buttons on the front with the dvd being in there. That is not normal, so you are either doing something horribly wrong (is the disc upside down?), or you have a broken dvd player.

Are you letting it auto-search for a code for your Blu-ray player or putting the code in yourself? There are multiple codes for some brands. (e.g. If you have an Insignia Blu-Ray player, then either 091 or 096 will work depending on your player model.) A one-off code that is found by the auto-search might only provide limited functionality.

It's not cool to cast doubt on somebody's gender identity. That's like assuming a rape victim is making it up. Like, call her stupid and annoying and an attention whore all you want, but the one consistency Catherine has maintained is her gender identity. I know you are lgbtq, so am I, so is Cathy. I am familiar only by driving through area where Cathy lives - Victorville is a depressing place to be. Cathy has to get out of there. Telling Cathy to go outside when outside is depressing is wot it is.

Different Samsung players probably use similar remote signals for basic on/off/standby type functions, but they may vary signals for other functions across devices depending the the range of functions those devices offer. If you're only getting limited functionality with the code you are using, wouldn't it make sense to try some of the others to see if they worked better?
