It's because you see yourself in the mirror way more often than you see yourself in pictures or videos. So, the self-image of yourself, that you have developed since the day you were born, is based mostly on what you see in mirrors. The problem is, everything you see in a mirror is a mirror image, and so the self-image in your brain, the way you think you look, is a mirror image. So, unless you have a perfectly symmetrical face and body (and no one really does), the images of yourself that you see in pictures and videos is flipped from how you see yourself in your mind. So to you, the pictures and videos look like the mirror image, when in reality your concept of self is what's really reversed.

I actually am what most would consider "good-looking" -- I am tall, athletic and reasonably handsome.
