Why is this even a term when we already call them Native Americans?

Racial terms are weird. Even Native Americans aren't really native — they just immigrated here first via a land bridge in Siberia. But "Indian" is a confusing term.

that's kind of a non-sequitur that real natives don't exist because migration in ancient history.
if you go back far enough we all probably immigrated to earth via a comet or meteor from outerspace. what an insight, right?
is it really immigration to migrate to a region that's never been populated before, or is it just animal migration?
people always try to marginalize natives by saying they aren't significant or they try to dismiss their birthright by claiming "no one can be a native" (apply voodoo logic here) and i think it's all in an attempt to justify the European land grab and subsequent attempted extermination of established tribes and native cultures. you can't explain away the north american genocide, and you can't simply sum it up with the non sequitur that there aren't "really natives."

I wasn't trying to marginalize indigenous peoples, the term "native" seems weird to me considering the land bridge thing. All the bad shit the Europeans did to the indigenous peoples was still wrong.
By discovering the land first, the Native Americans got ownership of it. I'm not trying to explain away anything. I think the Europeans should have bought land from the indigenous peoples at market rates instead of fighting and stealing it.

Enjoyed this topic - Got me to C if any progress on the land bridge theory vs coastal routes because one thing that has always made the land bridge (only theory) weak is -
Carbon dating always shows human remains in Chile and say Utah as the same. So just a fast look

If a Mass of land was empty of Humans and Humans came along and settled in for 15,000+ years me thinks the term Native applies - After all do they have to go back to Garden of Eden to be Natives?

I think 'native' makes them sound like primitive losers. As in, this belonged to the 'natives' once but they were too primitive to defend it. If we truly respected these cultures we'd call them by their own ancient tribal names.

Out n about hiking back when I lived in Los Angeles area I often ran across Native American village remains. On occasion a Femur or such after rains made a mess of grave sites.
I ended up as a hobby in study of the two different migrations - One Coastal and One via land. Two different languages and cultures. Because of abundance of foods there was little evidence of war n such.
