Apparently these things are actually quite reliable, and cheaper to maintain than an Eagle Talon AWD. Logic tells me not to get it, but my heart says GET IT GET IT GET IT.

I'd get it: world class supercar performance with GM upkeep costs. It can keep up with the Porsches and Ferraris of its day, but can be repaired and serviced for a pittance. Also quite stylish. Insurance cost may be a factor (teenager plus Vette=$$$$$$$$) but you won't get four digit repair bills for simple stuff. Once again, GM offers a solid value proposition and world class performance but no one wants it cause it's not some hipster riced out Jap trap with a fart can.

I'm surprised by how cheap it is to maintain. It's got the same engine as my grandmother's Buick. Amazing how I can get one of the dream cars of my childhood just out of high school for half the cost of a depressing Kia shitbox.

It shouldn't be TOO expensive, since it'll be PLPD (personal liability and property damage) and it'll be under my father's name. Should cost no more to insure than the V8 van I currently DD. Will get better fuel economy as well.

I love the interior of it. It's fucking wonderful looking, but something tells me it's got the horrible cheap plastic of the era. Much nicer than a Mark VIII in terms of appearance (interior and exterior)though, damn near the same amount of power, and it's lighter! And it still has damn comfy leather seats.

110k is just broken in on a GM small block. The Hydromatic transmissions are similarly bulletproof. That's the benefit of "outdated" technology: all the bugs were worked out decades ago.

I guess. It's just a slight annoyance for me. Looks far better than the Mark VIII dash though.

I guess the Mark VIII has a more luxurious appearance, but the air ride, electronics and all that shit is bound to fail. And I didn't like the interior, so I looked at the SC400. That's good. The Roadmaster had a similar powertrain and transmission and it was rather brisk for a 4500lbs car on a body-on-frame chassis.

You have a point -- air ride is fragile and $$$$ to fix. I think it was an option on the MK VIII (know it was on the Town Car) so you might be able to avoid it.
I'd be wary of older Lexuses (Lexii?). They were built to absurd quality levels but all the older LS400s down here (cant say for SC400 cause only about three are known to exist in the whole world but I imagine its similar) have a quarter million miles, rimz, and blue smoke. Their third (fourth, and fifth...) owners have probably put off maintenance and they're due for catastrophic failure soon.

really? I prefer manual, you have so much more precise control of the car that way. I really wish i could have even more control and have gauges and dials for things like gas mixture and radiator pressure. if i could precisely control the amount of windshield wiper fluid with a high quality potentiometer i would totally do that.
