I caught a friend of mine saying "crisps" the other day. I know he talks to a lot of people on message boards and such. What freaked me out about it was that I almost didn't notice him doing it. It sounded normal until I got a little "ping" in the back of my head that something didn't fit into context. Then I thought about it. Then I looked at him and said, "Crisps? Really?" It's like American English is being subtly undermined by those sneaky Brits via the Interwebs...
