I started a new survival game on Minecraft this time using the Life in the Woods modpack with their recommendation for shaders.
I got the hungry version for a little bit of challenge and it is literally hard to play without constantly starving yourself. I might just remove that mod as I got this pack because I just want to relax and not having to worry about my troubles. If I wanted challenge, I should have looked to the more technology mods/packs.
Anyway, here is my starter home, very very basic, but I needed somewhere to settled down without having to lose all of my shit due to starvation. Yes, there is a bed there too which I stole from the Jews in a village at spawn.

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.
Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called "Linux", and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.
There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called "Linux" distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

I wanted a program that can get the robot to dig me a shaft and place down a ladder. I got it to do both except instead of a 1 block shaft as I wanted it's a 2x1 shaft though I might retry a 1 block shaft again. Now I need to learn how to program it so I could get a specific depth and for it to stop after that limit had been reached.

I was thinking you could have the only shop on the server or something, but I don't know how to set you up to do that. If all goes well, I'll upload the modpack and post the IP later on tonight. I'm usually available whenever, just holla at me either here or on the IRC.
A Technic pack might be good as a means to ensure everyone gets the mods, just make sure everything is configured properly so there's no conflicts.
I assume you want to use the Life in the Woods modpack?
If so, there seem to be a confliction with two mods in the pack called Better Signs and Underground Biomes which happens to crash people's game on some machines while others run it just fine.
Maybe we could look into that.

The IRC mod I believe is client-side, so that is of no concern to the server. I haven't touched minecraft in forever, so I am not up to date at all with all the current mod things, so I don't know much more than you. I think the defaults for computercraft are pretty decent. @475,809 (Ks !KansasxqvM)
The official API is a plugin API and not a mod API meaning that it'll limit several things for mods. Think of bukkit plugins in comparison to the more indepth mods.
Usually mods work well together so they do not require too much configuring, but some more tech mods do because their creators are little cunts.
But it's just better to avoid their mods all together (i.e. better than wolves, redpower).
These mods I consider absolutely essential for any modded server. Hopefully you have them. Carpenter's Blocks Bibliocraft
Mods I do not call essential yet close to it. Better Storage Chisel (with the option to replace vanilla blocks disabled, it's just annoying) ComputerCraft (with fuel for turtles turned off, fuck you Greg)
Mods that are pure fun and I highly recommend them. Tinker's Construct Natura (preferably with nether trees disabled if default nether is desired)(same creator as the mod above) HarvestCraft (good for a peaceful game in the woods, apart of the life in the woods modpack)
All of these mods DO work for multiplayer as they have been apart of several modpacks in the past.
I could possibly put together a modpack for Minichan, but I cannot do fancy installers so the instructions would probably be...
1. Install forge 1.6.4
2. place the mods into the mods folder.

@previous (Catherine !TGirlYJKXM)
I'm open to pretty much anything. I left all the default life in the woods mods alone, I removed none of them. MCPC+ should prevent ID errors if I understand it correctly.
But before that I need to see if these mods will play nice together. Also, there are plugins to configure. I've got Essentials, WorldEdit, Healthbar, NoCheatPlus, SimpleAutoMessage, Simple Backup and World border. I don't know if any of the plugins are redundant, and I'm not sure how important NoCheatPlus is.
I'll test those mods locally and see how it goes before I bother uploading them.
I plan to run the server for a good while, so no big rush. Lets get it right. I know you play Minecraft a lot on the regular, so I hope to make you a big part of day to day stuff.

I believe Chisel just adds a subtype to vanilla blocks. It doesn't overwrite them, it just adds more options for each block type. I could be wrong about that.

Chisel does overwrite the vanilla blocks by default. You have to disable it.
It overwrites them with it's own versions of the vanilla blocks.
I also would like to recommend a few more fun mods which I think should be added to the server.
iChun Mods iChun-util (absolutely required) Sync (basically cloning yourself) Morph (with auto-morph on kill disabled, it can get bothersome) Torched (adds fun guns with torches, handy for lighting up large areas, and can even be used as a weapon against mobs) Portal Gun (with hardcore recipe for portal guns disable if possible if it isn't already, the regular recipe was expensive enough) Hats (optional) (only if you want a fun collecting game)
This creator has other mods so have a gander to see if anything else interests you guys. There is also a gravitygun and trail-mix mod too.
FyberOptic Mods Hopper Duct (please get this mod, these should be in the vanilla game) Redstone Paste (same with this one, this is what redstone should be like)

micdoodle8 Mods Galacticraft 2 (go to Mars or the Moon whatever or just build a space station)
RWTema Mods Extra Utilities (definitely a new favorite of me for such items like the angel block which allows you to place a block in mid air, the pump which also acts as a chunk loader and turns pumped lava into stone to prevent lag, and a whole lot of other shit)
Serious fun can be had with all of the mods I listed above.

I will also provide a .zip still though since it'll be good for other people who want to play.
I will also include the IRC mod. If someone doesn't want it they can just remove it from their mods folder. :-)

I think I've mentioned several times that I've left all the LITW mods on the server. Yes, it's a life in the woods server and we're adding mods to that. As far as I know better signs is not a part of the original LITW pack, maybe it was at one point and they removed it. Version A is under older versions. I assume C is the newest version, but I just thought I'd ask in case you knew something about the versions that I don't. I'll just install C.

The server is running MCPC+ which is combination of Forge, Spiggot, and Bukkit. I'm okay with almost any plugin or mod for the server. But I have to test the server before I worry about the client right? If the server doesn't work the client stuff won't matter. I'm gonna keep testing mods and see where it breaks, if it does.
Slow down. =D

Some mods are client only. In other words they don't need to be on the server (and I think MCPC+ crashes with client only mods). So yes, as far as I know the client pack compatible with the server. The server pack only has mods required for the server, and the client pack has the server mods and the client only mods.

Okay, so if you want to do some testing, I suggest you follow these steps. CAUTION: It's fairly big weighing in at around 87.34 MB.
1. Make a new folder on your desktop or a location of your choosing.
2. Open the default Minecraft launcher.
3. Click on "New Profile".
4. Give your Profile a name.
5. Click the checkmark next to Game Dictionary and enter the location of the folder you made in step 1.
6. If you have forge already installed, select the forge version from the Use version drop down menu and click Save Profile.
7. Select the profile name from the bottom-left drop down menu.
8. Click the big Play button and let the game load.
I suggest you download the web displays mod and run the installer prior to doing the following steps. Make sure you select the profile you wish to install the mod too.
9. Close the game and go to that folder you made earlier.
10. Click the mods folder or make one if it isn't there.
11. Add all of the mods in the zip's mods folder to the folder mentioned in step 9.
12. Add the configs in the zip's configs folder to the configs folder in the folder you made.
Make sure the hopper config is there from this file as it alters IDs.
13. Make sure that if any configs you have already made changes to are out of the folder so you could overwrite mine.
14. Launch the game, click play, and see if it works.

Sure, no problem. I just run a local test server using this.
We gotta get on the same page here. The only mod I'm opposed to is web displays, and only then because I'm pretty sure it makes a technic modpack impossible. This server is going to be public, not just for Minichan. It would almost certainly be best to keep installation and joining the server as simple as possible (technic launcher).
Right now I have my local test server working and configured right up until @475,908 (Catherine !TGirlYJKXM) those requested mods. I stopped because you said life in the woods broke. At what point did it break? Did you just toss all the mods in at once? There's a good chance we could just find the mod that broke it and not include it. I'd like to avoid putting the server together from scratch if I can.

Is web displays the only mod that'll make a technic modpack impossible?
Still, it might be best to save a .zip for a backup.
I also plan on some day hosting a server exclusively for /vg/.
And most of the steps can easily be narrowed down into only a few.

We'll vote on it. It seems only fair. Don't sweat the small stuff. I intend to host the server for a good while, maybe a year or more. The server we're setting up now will just be the first iteration. Interest will wane and things can change. After I get the kinks worked out multi-world setup might be an option.
MCPC+ works like launching a vanilla server, just make a .bat and put it in the folder, aim the .bat at the mcpc.jar.
Also in your modpack the backpack mod needs updated, and add better world generator.

Fortunately, the mods I gave us are mods found in every modpack ever and the girl who made Life in the Woods doesn't seem to care.

Would you like to design and build the server's shop in the near future?

I'm not a good builder. I'll set it up though.

While this modpack crashes whenever I attempt to load it from the launcher.
Maybe my pack works too.

Link to your pack?
Are any packs working for you?

No Thermal Expansion. :-(
We should try to get this worked out with the server ASAP.
I doubt most people would want to play without it.

Your modpack works fine for me.

I'm a lot more comfortable putting together all this stuff at this point. I'm sure I could work it out. What does it even do?

It's a technology that I consider absolutely essential to every modpack.
It's possibly the only technology mod you ever need now that it added features of it's own that are found in the Buildcraft mod.
r04r and I like to use it a lot when we played Tekkit. It's also comparable with ComputerCraft.
And I think my problem might be the Better Signs mod on both accounts. On this computer it doesn't seem to want to work while on my brother's it works just fine.
Oh and the Underground Biomes mod.

I'll take a stab at the thermal expansion thing tomorrow. It wasn't working before, but I think I know why. I mentioned optifine because for whatever reason it was making my client crash. Anyhow, I'll update tomorrow.

I do not think you need redstone arsenal since that just adds new tools.
Thermal Expansion now has it's own power, pipes, etc.
It is no longer dependent upon other mods such as Buildcraft and Forestry though it is compatible and can raise gameplay with those mods.
I'm thinking of making a tech-essentials addon pack featuring...
Thermal Expansion
Applied Eugenics
Both mods I consider essential. I would put ComputerCraft in there too if I hadn't already included it in the base package.

Ks, can you make a manual pack?
Ks !KansasxqvM replied with this 12 years ago, 9 minutes later, 1 week after the original post[^][v]#477,069
The problem with Thermal Expansion is weird. On start it creates ForgeMultipart-universal-1.6.4-1.0.0.219.jar in the mods/1.6.4 folder. This crashes the server every time. Annnndd I think I should just try a different version. Damn, I wish I had seen this 2 hours ago. http://files.minecraftforge.net/ForgeMultipart/index_legacy.html
I'll keep plugging away at it after I eat dinner.
Did you have something else in mind?
Ks !KansasxqvM double-posted this 12 years ago, 6 minutes later, 1 week after the original post[^][v]#477,070
@477,068 (Catherine !TGirlYJKXM)
If you meant a pack for manually installing, everything you should need is located in .technic/modspacks.

Oh, I think I found a plugin that could satisfy both mine and squeegee's needs.
I want bending, he doesn't. So why not have two worlds. One for non-bending and one for bending?
I think the plugin is called worlds, but not sure.
