Topic: HEY: i'm crowdsourcing a project i'm working on
squeegee !first/o5zA started this discussion 12 years ago#34,271
after seeing the success of Goat Simulator on Steam i've decided to begin work on a new project of my own, called
Simulator: Alpha Canine
which is basically just a dog simulator where you play as a dog and do dog things. it will be multiplayer.
the single player campaign mode will focus on domination and territorial control.
you, as a dog, will have the ability to run down, bite, claw, and tear apart your "prey". you will also be able to intimidate, scare off, and call attention to yourself with barks and howls.
you can dominate other dogs and lead a pack.
you can be claimed by a family which will come with perks, but requires "maintenance"
or you may live as a stray which comes with different perks, but is more dangerous.
you can fuck bitches, and have puppies, which if they survive long enough will become your strongest and fiercest allies.
you can chase cars, attack mailmen, evade the dog catchers, and dig up people's gardens.
you can bury stuff. even bodies if you like.
you will gain notoriety as either a "bad dog" or a "good dog,"
you can perform tricks for rewards from humans.
humans will react in different ways, they can be kind to you, scared of you, mean to you, or ambivalent.
your actions will affect their reactions, maybe making a mean person scared, or a kind person mean. just bite something and see, or put on an aggressive display and make everyone run.
you can play fetch with humans.
it will be amazing.
so, coders, start your bidding, and remember that you'll be entitled to a portion of any resulting proceeds and will have ownership in any venture beyond just game design, i.e. you'll have a share of ownership of the game

anyone with experience with cryengine would be right at the front of the line, btw

also just to give you an idea of where the project is there is talk of trademarking and engine licensing,
marketing and game features. funding is being discussed at the moment, but everything is preliminary.
and think of the achievement system, "bit the hand that fed you," it'll be fantastic.

i'm sorry, but Simulator: Alpha Canine has been in development since 1983, if anything Goat Simulator is an illegal clone of my original and unique idea.

Does the dog gain weight exponentially?

> so, coders, ... ... you'll have a share of ownership of the game
If a coder makes the game, it will actually belong to the coder, and a share ($100,000/day) will actually belong to the goat master race.

not when i'm talking about paying them for their coding. i'm not asking anyone to work for free or even work for future profits.
however i'm thinking a vested interest in the outcome of a project like this might entice someone to contract at a rate lower than they would otherwise.
i could try to contract a programmer at a rate that would satisfy them without any kind of ownership stake, but if that's what i'm looking at doing then there are local developers that i could reach out to but that's a whole different level of over-my-head.
if someone has experience with cryengine and would like to work on a very-alpha level i would be interested in seeing what sort of compensation they would have in mind and what kind of contributions they could make.

pre-orders are 9.99 and i do take credit cards.
if you pre-order now you'll be eligible for the Alpha package which comes with a code for access to exclusive content
including the Silver American Pitbull Terrier, English Bulldog, and Shih-tzu playable characters, as well as bonus gear
such as colorful bandanas, sweaters, squeak toys and collars.

look, i can't give away all the features before the release, but i can promise you unlockable content,
and the possibility of playing as cats with their own special abilities and game play mechanics.

@Squeegee
Okay there was this weird red dot that's been haunting the house... Anyway, if you make a cat simulator I can promise I will donate all of my MinnieCoin™ to the project. Dog simulators are boring.What, do you get an achievement if you sniff 50+ butts? Achievement unlocked: Barking like a moron at the delivery truck. Yeah. Nice. Whatever. Silly.

i dunno, sniffing 50 butts would probably proc the "nose of steel" perk

@previous (squeegee !first/o5zA)
You should probably consider what makes dogs tick. (mostly I don't have to) Although, if there is cat content... Wait! Maybe you should make a game for cats
Anonymous F double-posted this 12 years ago, 1 minute later, 5 hours after the original post[^][v]#473,085
Sorry, a mote of dust distracted me... If you could make a game for cats about what it would be like to be a dog... Well that sounds gross. Maybe just make a game about cats.

What happens when they get fleas?
squeegee !first/o5zA (OP) replied with this 12 years ago, 7 hours later, 3 days after the original post[^][v]#473,478
@previous (M)
fleas are a debuff, so if you get them your character stops frequently to uncontrollably scratch himself, regardless of what you're doing.
running from the dog catchers? get caught scratching.
chasing a cat? lose it because you're scratching.
get in a dog fight? Oops, better stop to scratch and die.
one of the perks of having a family is that they will give you flea baths to remove that debuff
(this was actually suggested on my kickstarter page by one of the alpha backers. pretty good idea, so i'll implement it.)
