For me the video game in question is Perfect Dark for the N64. I literally wore out an N64 playing just this game and now I play it in the Mupen64 emulator.

I don't think it's particularly odd. Sometimes you do find a game that you really enjoy playing and just keep coming back to. I mean, as long as it's not damaging the rest of your life in any real way, game on.
I'm maybe not as "obsessed" as you, but I'd say that my particular game is Fallout New Vegas. Since it's come out, I've just kept coming back to it over the years. Bloody top game.
