I do enjoy jury duty. However am still haunted by need to decide if someone was sane n no danger to community.

it's municipal court today, so if i get selected it'll probably be for a speeding ticket.
my brother served last week and was selected for a murder trial - a murder for hire plot involving a mexican drug cartel and undercover agents and the works.
but when they started opening arguments there was a discovery issue and the whole jury was tainted by the prosecutors opening arguments so he got dismissed.
which was good, he and the rest of the jury were really being eyeballed by all the gang bangers who showed up to intimidate whoever got picked. he went outside for a cig and the gangbangers followed him outside and were pointing at him and whispering to each other (my bro has red hair which really stands out) and he felt like he was being singled out for being memorable...
he was glad to be dismissed.

well that was uneventful. didn't get put on a jury. i did try to buy a bag of cheeze-its from the vending machine and it got stuck so i had to pay for a second bag. i actually left the second bag in the chute and waited to see if anyone would take it.
everyone who used the machine saw the bag of crackers but no one actually took it. they'd get their sunchips or whatever and look at the bag like, "nice try coppers, i'm not stealing those."
anyway, i'm home now so i'll never know what'll happen to them.

yes. they explained to us that everyone has a right to a jury trial even for a class c misdemeanor.
Usually though it never goes before a jury, so most people who are summoned for jury duty are there "in case they are needed," and sometimes they are, but usually they are not. So every day they have a jury pool from which to randomly select individuals.
They randomly selected one jury from my group to go sit on the one trial that made it through the docket this afternoon. The rest of us were eventually dismissed.

it get's more interesting if you get selected, you get to go talk to lawyers and answer questions so they can get an idea whether or not to contest you and remove you. If you also make it past that then it gets to all the fun court stuff, which is interesting depending on the case. Municipal stuff is like tickets and contested fines, and like zoning violations and ordinance issues and stuff. that's the stuff that usually they won't need a jury for. it just all goes before a judge who makes a ruling and you get dismissed a little early except for maybe 6 people who stay to sit on the one jury trial that afternoon.
What you want is to sit on a criminal trial, that's the good stuff. Of course those are the ones that can take multiple sessions over multiple days so might end up taking up more of your time. It's still pretty unusual for a trial to take weeks or months, those do happen, but they are really pretty rare. You probably wouldn't want to be on a trial that lasts for weeks and months, but the odds of getting on a jury like that are super slim.

Oh, wifi? If that's true of Cornwall's courts then that's fine, I can survive fine with wifi.
And yeah I probably was a bit quick to dismiss it all as boring. A real case might be interesting, as long as it's not too long.

Most cases I did as juror were 1 n 3 days. Butttttttttt when I realized I was going to be on a panel and I felt something fishy about trial length...I raised my hand to make a correction re did I no anyone that worked at the Hospital re the court case. I didn't really but it was the Hospital I was born at. People laffed and it did get me dismissed with some nasty looks from Attorneys on both sides.
So I forgot all about that case (case was explained in advance to prospective panel)
6 months later on freeway listing to news and they reported that a 6 Month case had just concluded
6 Months but then they said the Judge tossed out the Juries decision as the worst he had heard in his legal life and insulted the jury.
It was about a nurse fired for incompetency.
