Why are you so frightened of somewhere other than the US being a dominant power? Why can the US be trusted any more than any other powerful countries? Why are you scared specifically of the US's military spending falling from first place?

The way in which you state your predictions comes across as quite terrified, to be perfectly honest.

just becuase you keep saying it doesn't make it so. if i was scared of foreign economic growth i would give you reason why.

but i'm really not becuase i don't think raising the world GDP by more than quadrupe what it is today is going to be a bad thing. maybe we can start manufacturing again and exporting american goods to china.

why do you keep insisting that i refuse to validate the rest of the world beyond america and am terrified of change when i'm the one here insisting other countries are equally valid and capable as we are (to be super powers) and that change is inevitable and certain.

why do you confuse certainty with fear?

The context and tone in the other thread made it ''seem"" that way.

well, that was unintentional then. my voice doesn't always carry over into text, i use alot of emphasis to indicate sarcasm etc, and that doesn't always translate cleanly.

Fair enough! Sorry about the misinterpretation, then!

also all the defense spending was merely an example to show how realistically close china is to american levels of governmental spending.

we spend more than the rest if the world combined, so if we are over taken on that number then the economy that does it will have to be enourmous. i'm just using it as a measure to guage chinese progress.

it's very fast, and it could dwarf everything we already have today.

the world will be a very much different place, very, very soon. so i urge all americans, but mostly politicians, to accept reality and not approach this next century with antiquated ideas about american exceptionalism and nationalistic pride.

we have a choice, we can work with the world to find our new place in this next age, or we fall further and further behind as we deny it's even happening.
