Seems like whenever there is one government to rule them all it is always a dystopian nightmare while Star Trek portrayed it as a positive symbol of unity for the human species.
Are there other stories that portrays such concepts positively?

Halo does. It has a united Earth.
However, said government has major problems with lots of human rebels on other worlds that used to be colonists of theirs, so they're not perfect. But Earth itself is doing okay under it, from what I recall.

idk most planets that are part of the federation are well off on account of galaxy-wide politics and 0 poverty and 0 natural disasters
the world government doesn't seem to have to do much on earth by the 24th century
