Microsoft can't actually do much. If you re-install Windows it tells you that you are pirating it. (because that's a fucking winning idea Microsoft!) I had genuine installs tell me that too. They seriously must get twice as many tech support calls and false alarms from actual users as pirates at this point. If they actually could arrest people, they would have to jail most of China and India, so... Yeah, have fun providing for the poor Bill -this is your're chance!
If I wipe my new laptop of all the ad shit and nigh-unremovable Norton crap, re-partition the hard drive, and re-install a clean copy of Windows, then I have to bitch to some fucking chick in India at 3am. Yeah... great. You're angling to make old people and idiots your customer base, MS.

Although about three million computers get sold every year in China, people don't pay for the software. Someday they will, though. And as long as they're going to steal it, we want them to steal ours. They'll get sort of addicted, and then we'll somehow figure out how to collect sometime in the next decade.

Its a good business strategy. M$ will make their money off the OEMs and bidness users in the rich countries, and then when China and India get rich, make money off them too. If they get hooked on GNU+Linux, then they've lost them forever.
