The things listed in the poll should indicate pretty much what I'm looking for. Long battery life, decent to good graphics performance, good processor, flash storage, etcetera.

You have expensive taste. I honestly have never been near rich enough to afford any of those.
I would recommend a modest $500-ish laptop and donating the change to a worthy charity. @OP

Taking notes at school; writing; Touhou; Source engine games; composing music. Pretty much, Ultrabook (or AMD equivalent) with a GeForce 750M (or AMD equivalent). Integrated graphics are fine if it's on a <12" screen, unless it's an Iris Pro 5200 or something like that, in which case, I'll go with that on larger screens.
