There was a time when people turned on their radio, tuned in to the station, and harnessed the power of FM frequency radio to... listen to people talking. Why?

You're hilariously misinformed and dumb as fuck, radio predates the first tv transmission experiments by at lest 50 years, give or take, with the first radio tests taking place in the 1800s while the first tv transmission was sent in 1925.

Bitch please, not only is FM still a thing, there's also a shitload of stations broadcasted on AM.
If you tune into during sunrise/sunset, due to the ionization of the upper atmosphere you'll be able to pick up stations from across the globe. I miss the radio I have at home, listening to weird asian shit tipsy at 5 AM is funny as fuck.
