I agree with you wholeheartedly. Don't forget funding the Mujahideen freedom fighters in Afghanistan which turned out really well 20 years later. But at least we got the Soviets out!
Also now we are funding the moderate, good guys in the Syrian civil war. Which will definitely not turn out to be a bad decision in the future.
