Didn't Kimmo sign up with some website so he didn't need to use the software? Bad move for him because a website can shut him down and he can rage about bitcoins being a scam.

bitcoin generation can use GPU acceleration, which is basically the only way to do it efficiently on your own
using a GPU-accelerated client on a laptop is dangerous
chill the fuck out

Just say, "Salty let me borrow your laptop."
She is in the same room so she hears you.
She'll answer, "Yes my master. I obey."
Then done.
I don't know if you can install bitcoins on multiple computers at once even with the ability to back up your wallet.

i don't think that can be done (never needed to look it up), but he can just leave his computer on to generate and control it from his laptop with remote desktop but he really doesn't want to leave his computer alone for long while the client is running or it might become damaged from the heat which would be bad

The site he uses allows them to automatically forward all Bitcoins to your main wallet, so they can't steal anything.
@60,707 (dreamworks4mayor '11 !xPoNIEsltA)
It depends on the number of transactions being processed, and the people competing to process that transaction. Few transactions, and other people with faster computers means you probably won't get any.
@60,720 (G)
Yes, you can convert Bitcoins to USD, and some people accept them as payment. Right now it's still early on, and the software is only at 0.3. In the future it might be used more, only time will tell.

Wrong there are sites that will pay for Bitcoins. The standard rate seem to be 300 Bitcoins/$1 > they seem quite scammy
No one controls the currency, so who would be scamming here? It's decentralized, and if you accept Bitcoins you can immediately convert back to USD to avoid losing money through Bitcoin inflation.
@60,732 (dreamworks4mayor '11 !xPoNIEsltA)
No shit, the point of Bitcoins generating is a small incentive to have some people process the transactions, and mainly to insure that Bitcoins can be produced without someone controlling the system. With fiat currencies the central bank can print money, not so with Bitcoins- they are distributed in small amount to the people using it- soon no more can be produced.

I meant the stores that accept bitcoins.

but yeah, you could probably buy some and sell them for a quick buck, but they very rarely go up in price by a notable margin

Yes, the point is not "LOL FREE MONEY", it's intended to be an alternate currency. You cannot "generate" USD by leaving your computer on either.
In fact eventually you won't be able to generate Bitcoins at all, as the maximum number available will be made.

The point of Bitcoins is to anonymize transactions among normal currencies for the moment. Buy Bitcoins, transfer them, sell Bitcoins.
A time when people don't convert back and forth would be a byproduct of this.
