there are already viruae built into apps on the play store
just because you download it from some greasy looking page is no reason for alarm
these people typically give you clean files only; because they get paid for each download

Even normal apps have dingy libraries that require access to anything, InMobi and Vulna are nearly in each app.

I live in tornado alley. It's nice to be able to track a storm in real time, without being glued to a TV set or a PC. Most weather sites refresh every 15 to 30 minutes and limit what you see to a base reflectivity. Paid weather apps refresh every 5 minutes or so and can tell you the storms wind velocity and direction, where the tops of the storm is, how fast the storm is moving, which direction it is moving, etc.

I guess you could compare the MD5 checksum of the cracked and legit .apk? Cracked software, on any platform, has always carried a significant risk of malware.

:/ No. Mostly. If the actual app were free of any Android billing check or copy protection, then this might work. (Most don't work that way; they make a check with Android Billing Services or phone home to some server when you start them.)
If there were some form of copy protection (which is true of most paid apps now) that depended on a specific Android device ID, Google Play account, or contacting some server for "verification" or "authentication" or whatever, then you would have to bypass that somehow by altering the code. If there were a billing check, and you told the methods that checked for that to just bypass it (by say returning 'true' to every isAppPurchachased() call or whatever) it would change the code and change the checksum. (It would sure-as-shit change the checksum if had to disassemble it, change the code, then reassemble it, byte align it, and then sign it with a new key, which is pretty normal procedure for altering and side-loading Android apps.) Even if you just cracked the software with nothing but good-pirate-vibe intentions, you would still have to alter the code which would alter the checksum. So, no. Probably not.
