Henry Ford's mass production and vertical integration innovation? I've always thought McDonalds did for food what Ford did for the car. Reduce customization, assembly lines, have each worker do one thing, standardized parts. Each Big Mac at each McDonalds in exactly the same, it is truly the Model T of food: it may not be luxurious or fancy or the best, but the common man can afford one and they come off the assembly line every few seconds.
I guess the other side of it's not the same at all, though, in that Ford paid his workers a high wage and cared deeply about their welfare and standard of living.

Henry Ford wanted his workers to earn enough money so that they could afford to buy one of his cars. McDonalds created their .99 menu for the exact reason.
