It seems that since the commercialization of the holiday it's slowly becoming less and less a Christian festival.

hey, OP, quick question, do you mean "commercialization" as in the practice of modern day marketing to advertize the season along with the product, or do you mean 19th century commercialization of the winter holiday season when in the wealthy parts of town poor people would break into homes to sing carols and demand payment as compensation from the homeowners, a tradition wealthy people didn't like, and so the rich people turned the holidays from riots and drunkenness into a season of mass consumption?Anonymous A (OP) replied with this 13 years ago, 15 minutes later, 40 minutes after the original post[^] [v] #459,420

@previous (A)i think the christians are just innocent bystanders in all this. you know, everyone is just hanging out through the fall, and then BAM, the winter solstice, everyone is drunk and semi-rioting, ripping up trees and pulling them into their houses. extorting rich people for good cheer.

I remember a Nativity play set in modern times. Having led up to the birth and the visit by the wise men etc the BBC arrive to do the customary interviews. Having got Mary and Joe set up, the interviewer is about to start when the baby Jesus begins to cry. The Producer shouts, "Cut! For gods sake we are trying to do interviews here - Can we get that fucking baby out of here". And so it was that Christ was removed from Christmas.
