Assuming for the sake of this question that suicide is immoral, is there a difference in morality between active suicide, and passive suicide? For example, active suicide would be something like shooting oneself in the head. Passive suicide would be jumping on a policeman and hitting him to get him to shoot you. Is there a moral difference?

Obviously the circumstances of the suicide would determine the morality of it. Suicide-bombers = immoral. Suicide by cop = immoral. Jumping on a hand grenade to save your friends = moral.

Talking about the morality or immorality of actions without considering the intention or meaning behind the acts, the circumstances, and the context in which it is being done is really setting yourself up to make overly broad generalizations.

When you are suicidal the morality of the matter does not come into it. It mostly a selfish, self centred act that considers only your own concerns. Even though I'm a kid I'v been close to this situation quite recently. The example of falling on a grenade to save others is self sacrifice and really can't be considered as suicide and thus must be cited as being of the highest moral virtue. B2S

It's all emotions and hormones. I don't know your life, but you seem like someone who has the ability to contribute to the world. You've certainly expended a lot of society's resources, so it only makes moralistic sense that you should recoup them somehow before you die/off yourself.

That is precisely where I felt I was at. Mentally and emotionally that is, Self deception in my case. Attention seeking and self indulgent even.
I could except that arguement in the case of a terribly ill person whose mental capability was still funtioning within the norm. Nonetheless there is still a great deal of [justifable] self interest.
