Ask either of them, "What will the other one tell me if I ask 'Which way to the village that tells the truth?'" Then go the opposite of the way they say. If you ask the one who tells the truth this question, he will point away from the village, knowing that the one who lies would tell you to go the wrong way. If you ask the one who lies this question, he knows that the other one would point you in the right direction, so he lies and also points you in the wrong direction. So asking this question and then going the opposite of the way they tell you will set you in the right direction.

Also, this question doesn't restrict what you can ask. I would simply ask one if they were a man or a woman. If he answered man, I would ask directions. If he answered woman, I wouldn't.
