You know, Gap's more costly sister store? I've been working there, and it has its ups and downs. On the upside I get a 50% discount, and it's fairly easy to steal stuff out of the back, also I don't do much other than stand around, talk to people, and make sure things look put together. (Mostly folding clothes.)
On the downside the pay sucks, I get $8 an hour, which would be fine if it wasn't for the fact that the hours suck even more (You can never even hope for more than 30 unless you're a "sales leader", or manager, and that takes like at least year of working there to get.) I get like 20 hours tops, I got 17 this week, but only because I was able to take 2 people's shifts.
I have to try to sell people "Banana Cards" which are credit cards for Banana Republic, I get $10 for every 5 I sell, so $2 a card. I start getting some bonuses like +$30.00 if I sell 15 in a month, but even with that it's a rip-off, they make such ridiculous money on the cards that I should at least get a commission on EVERY card I sell, not every 5 like some internet referral bullshit. Not to mention every interaction I have with a customer is ruined by me trying to sell them this card, also ruined by how needlessly complicated our sales are. Things like "Your first 2 items are 40% off, except Blazers, women's wool sweaters, Aiden Chinos, and the new Lauren Collection. Unless you have your Banana Card then all of your items are 40% off, except the Lauren Collection that'll be only 20% off", and the store puts "for sale" signs even next to things that aren't on sale, and instead of fine print on the sales signs and online notifications it just says "see an associate for details", we've had more than one pissed customer.
Customers are okay, lots of older, and foreign people, but lots of teenagers and their parents too. Not necessarily a completely affluent crowd, but I can usually tell when people are going to head straight for the sales rack, or look around for 30 seconds, and proceed to walk out.

All Gap-owned clothing operations have zero quality control. Their clothes wear out in less than a year or ordinary wear. This may be acceptable for Old Navy, but it's pure bullshit at higher price points. Gap is one of those stores that should have went bankrupt long ago.

You're missing the point: you're supposed to throw it away after a few months. I mean, do you really want to be seen wearing last season's $80 khakis?!
Think of it as DRM for fashion.

They pay you $8/hr to > steal stuff out of the back
Sounds like one hell of a deal except of course your photo is all over the internet

To their credit I have stuff from BR, and cheaper stuff too that has lasted me a few years, I could very easily have just lucked out though.
Every item I've purchased from Burberry however has worn out significantly from nothing, but casual wear.
