I need some for a Christmas present; I've got far too much e.e. cummings and Bukowski in here. Thanks!

What about some Goethe?

Ummm... None of them are even remotely Christmas-y. I grew up fucking hating Christmas music. That might have influenced my taste a bit. If you don't want to go with [little tree] or The Oxen than maybe just reach for some Bukowski and take a chance?

It doesn't need to be Christmasy at all, just a nice poem.

@457,148 (beckyderp !8ElfFaoFao)
Thanks!

I can't possibly reccomend poetry without knowing what style and emotion you're hoping for.

When by thy scorn, O murd'ress, I am dead,
And that thou thinkst thee free
From all solicitation from me,
Then shall my ghost come to thy bed,
And thee, feign'd vestal, in worse arms shall see :
Then thy sick taper will begin to wink,
And he, whose thou art then, being tired before,
Will, if thou stir, or pinch to wake him, think
Thou call'st for more,
And, in false sleep, will from thee shrink :
And then, poor aspen wretch, neglected thou
Bathed in a cold quicksilver sweat wilt lie,
A verier ghost than I.
What I will say, I will not tell thee now,
Lest that preserve thee ; and since my love is spent,
I'd rather thou shouldst painfully repent,
Than by my threatenings rest still innocent.

Gray Walls, impenetrable steel.
Suffocation! Condemnation!
Little hands groping in subterranean uncertainty.
Mommy? Daddy? Am I Dead?
Nay! Nay! Reborn into purifying fluorescence!

A face emerges, strong and male.
Father to me? Father to all!

Overseeing our lives, our eternities.
Harshness of discipline.
Harshness of love
Obedience my savior!

Larva to pupa, pupa to worker.
Buzz, buzz! One with the steel honeycomb.
10 lies within the 101, significant at last.
Till gray seeps from the walls to hair, to soul.
Then, eternal slumber, the sweet sleep of incineration.

The apparition of these faces in the crowd;
Petals on a wet, black bough.
— Ezra Pound

So much in so few words. Amazing really.
