Cannabis is legal in pill form everywhere. The debate is whether you can walk around smoking it.

I'd imagine that a lot of the help it provides is placebo-based. Though I don't know for definite, not being an expert on 420 nor blazing it.

The placebo effect is science. Cheers.

The placebo effect is indeed a scientifically verifiable phenomenon. However, your speculation that the beneficial medial effects of cannabis are attributable to it is both judgmental and inappropriate. If you understand the placebo effect to be a scientifically verifiable phenomenon, then you also understand there is absolutely no need to make claims in the absence of documented scientific evidence to support them. Double blind peer-reviewed studies or GTFO.
Furthermore, even if 100% of the effects were placebo, it simply does not matter. If you understand the placebo effect at all then you understand beneficial effects are both real and quantifiable. Therefore, true or false, your hypothesis is in fact 100% irrelevant and immaterial to the discussion at hand.
It is of course true that even in the highly unlikely scenario where all the various medical benefits Cannabis users experience were entirely attributable placebo effect, such a revelation would be immaterial to the goal of healing. The placebo effect delivers measurable benefits, so the distinction between real and placebo is no distinction at all. All 'placebo' really means is we don't yet understand the mechanism by which the brain itself accelerates healing.
You 'imagine' the help Cannabis provides is placebo-based because it serves your self-interest as a non-user. People who intentionally pass up beneficial things will always find ways to downplay the benefits and overstate the risks.

You assume bias and a shadowy agenda on my part in order to legitimise your feeling of persecution when the government rejects your solution of "420 blaze it lol!" for each and every problem in life. If everybody who questions your precious weed is biased and indeed wilfully ignorant, then "420 blaze it lol!" is made to seem like an even better solution.

Actually, TTEH makes an even better point than my above stoner baiting. Allah is all. He alone can cure cancer, not your demon plant.

you do seem to have a shadowy agenda with your trivializing of the medicine
cannabis is useful for treating a lot if symptoms that go along with chemo ie it helps with nausea loss of appetite etc. we aren't talking about stoners we are talking about dying people's quality of life

If you were a doctor, would all of your recommendations to patients be "smoke weed every day"?
Anonymous A (OP) replied with this 13 years ago, 1 hour later, 1 day after the original post[^][v]#455,207

Of course that could not possibly be my recommendation, even if that were totally and completely true beyond any question of science, simply because my ability to remain a Doctor would be predicated on having fulfilled a political need.
Upholding the idea that Physicians should be the sole arbiters of medicinal drug use in civilized society is important. Drugs do have the capacity to alter human behavior and health outcomes. But still, the Doctors of today are scared to basically do their fucking job. But yes, if I were a Doctor my preference would be for everyone who is going to smoke weed anyways to do so under the awareness and guidance of a physician.
I do realize that would be politically difficult though, so the practical side of me would probably just issue scripts to high-suffering patients to quiet any possible objections.

You present a hypothesis, yet offer no material support for it. You confess to not using Cannabis, yet you believe yourself to have an opinion of value on the subject. Who's making assumptions?

You're getting very serious for a stoner. Smoke some weed and calm down, bro.
