Topic: HEY: becky. you told me to find us all a new game. go to the "star citzen" thread, click the lick

squeegee !first/o5zA started this discussion 13 years ago #32,595

and pick your spaceship package "pledge."
everyone should that want's alpha and beta access. it's still alpha-alpha.
the dog fighting "module" will be ready in december, so people can join alpha servers and dog fight i guess.
also some ships carry multiple people, so you only need a pilot and everyone else can be navigators, turret operators or even fly small defensive fighters launched from a time flight deck.

you can be pirates
or smugglers.
or miners, becky. you can be a miner,
or a trader even and make us rich as a guild!@

I cannot take your pitch seriously when you fail even the most basic grammar. You're fired.

if you'd just clicked the lick you'd know it's a crowd funded game, which is cool. The director of the the project was the director of Wing Commander and Privateer among others. Star Citizen is his vision of a persistent, multiplayer, open world sandbox space-based universe. incorporated into that universe is a solo campaign-mode that ends by releasing you into the multiplayer sandbox. in the sandbox you can earn money by trading, smuggling, mercenary work, piracy, long-haul shipping, exploration, salvaging, mining, fuel manufacturing, bounty hunting, ancient alien archaeology, i'm sure i forgot other things you can do.
the sandbox has a built in economy where planets need x, y, and z products. trade missions and cargo haul missions are generated based on that need. however, NPCs can disrupt trade by destroying vessels, piracy, embargo, and players can also affect trade by doing the same sorts of things (though i think embargo is an NPC planetary politics thing players can't do, idk.) Piracy, in turn, creates new trade missions and cargo missions to that planet to offset the supply gap. Also, if you're engaging in piracy you'll be flagged as a pirate and the police or the militia may come after you to fix trade. mercenary missions are also generated to kill you.
Guilds will allow for teams of players, or teams of traders, or convoys of truckers, or bands of pirates to work at a team to achieve goals, such as high risk trade routes with large payoffs, or capturing vessels to sell on the black market. Several ships hold multiple people who each can have a job on board. one, the pilot, two is the navigator, three is a gunner, and four is piloting a small defensive fighter. or part of a boarding party if you're going after something big, like a 10 person Idras Corvette, or a 755 man (yes 755 player) Bengal class Carrier with multilevel flight decks and dozens of full sized attack fighters, bombers, and idk what else.
it's like an MMO, except that instead of improving characters, you improve your hanger and ships. your character can actually die, and you can actually lose all your shit. To help, there's insurance. use in game money to take out a policy against your ship to protect against loss, and will your belongings to your next character when one dies. really all that suffers is your "respect" level or whatever that is. so dying isn't that bad. just be sure to have insurance.
once you do, go out and do some mining, earn some cash, upgrade to bigger ships, and eventually you can run a space station or planetary trading post real players dock to and spend credits with.
Also, you can have a crew. If you have a ship that supports a crew you can hire NPCs to work as gunners, copilots, and boarding parties. Also, since it's multiplayer, you can just take your friends.

as for the game itself if the trailers are to be believed it's going to run in as high as 4k and looks to have incredible fidelity. there are 48 some odd distinct systems to "jump" too, each with it's own economic needs, security pressures, unique models, and factions that span the sector.

tl;dr

here's the plan: we are but simple farmers. but secretly we begin by outfitting a few craft with sensor arrays and look for either an abandoned pirate base in the asteroid fields, or a decommissioned space station or starship we can fix up and use as a base of operations. meanwhile the rest of the guild will be doing smuggling runs and needling at trade routes in pirate ships if they like.

or, or, we can start a mining company and save up our guild credit and buy huge fuel tankers and flaunt it like the saudis.

They are still selling alpha and beta passes with all the crowd funding donations, and whatever ship you buy will be your starter ship when the game launches. the anniversary promo ships sell with life time insurance on the ship as well as the game.

dog fighting starts in december. i think they are aiming for a beta in august, or late 2014. the game will full release in spring of 2015
if not faster, depending on funding.
funding which is flooding in because the game looks tits

seriously? 22 hours and only one reply? and i think the one might be sarcastic.
no one else thinks this game is going to be badass?
it's so bad ass a PS4 and an xbox1 can't even run it, not that that's saying much i guess, but still.
their goal is to make a next-gen game that's well beyond industry "next-gen."
that's not cool?
you bastards make me sick

I think the game is going to be badass. It seems cool. I'm just not sure if it's a good idea for The Fora at this time, since it's somewhat unpolished and still very alpha. I'm afraid people will be put off by the freshness for now. I liked it when I tried it, and I think it will be a great idea once the multiplayer has been going for a while and it's a little more polished.

i think you're thinking of a different game, that other one. this one isn't at all like minecraft. and there's nothing to play, just videos to watch. the playable dog fighting module will be out in december. it's so alpha it's not even alpha, the alpha will be out next year. the dog fighting module is prealpha. how hip is that?

you do have to donate dog fight though.

Welp you're right, I partly confused it with another game. Star citizen looks cool as well, I'll look more at it tomorrow.

BWA HA HAHAHA, this is their best value, today only anniversary sale, midnight to midnight PST, the advanced starter package, 55 dollars. You get an upgraded starter ship, life time ship insurance, a digital copy of the game (when it drops), alpha and beta access, and 1,000 credits.
https://robertsspaceindustries.com/store/349-advanced-starter-package-lti

this one is the same as above, but is $45, and does not come with the Single Player game, only the multiplayer sandbox
https://robertsspaceindustries.com/store/350-starter-package-lti

the least expensive option is the always available Next Generation Aurora package, for $45, which comes with an upgraded starter ship, 3 months insurance, a digital copy of the game, alpha and beta access, and 1k credit.
https://robertsspaceindustries.com/store/299-next-generation-aurora

the $30 Digital Scout package does not come with alpha and beta access, so watch out for it.

so, y'all that're interested check out the 55 dollar anniversary package since it's a one day only sale. tomorrow it'll chance to a different ship, and tomorrow's special will be 100 - 200 dollars.

it's not broken, it's incomplete.
you're paying for access to alpha and beta.
you receive the full game upon completion.
you keep your Pledge ship and get to use it in game.
$45 still less than the cost of worse games on steam.

dreamworks replied with this 13 years ago, 49 minutes later, 1 day after the original post[^] [v] #454,965

@previous (squeegee !first/o5zA)
Yeah but I should have to pay less for the incomplete version!

But you get the full game plus extras. Also I bet it'll be 60 bucks when they're done.
