That's what I love about MC. Just text and a few images. No registration, you can just jump right in and start posting. Post with a name or anonymous. Also you can't just "like" stuff, you have to actually use words to communicate liking or disliking something. Also no creepy targeted advertisement. I hate going on Facebook and Twitter is just inane garbage. Instagram is camwhoring with godawful faux-retro filters.

The technology we have now is far more than I expected back then. Smartphones and Google Glass are like sci-fi stuff. But I don't sense any optimism for society.

You're right, and I am getting on in years myself. I think a large part of it is because it's easier to feel good about a time that's already passed because there's no uncertainty. Like watching a movie you've already seen a few times: you already know how the story ends. But we don't know what's going to happen (to ourselves or society in general) so the uncertainty can lead to pessimism.

That being said, the 2012 shit was just inexcusable.

But the 21st century is still awesome. Sure we do not have water powered automobiles or public flying cars, but such devices as tablets and smartphones are surely gateways to something far greater. The advancements in science and more specifically medical science is enough to make one count their blessings to be living in this time.

Of course, I might just be an optimist.
