Just got in and damn. Off to a Italian Columbus day festival tomorrow so maybe on Monday I will answer that question. But for now perhaps you did not know? Every cell technology for consumers uses Qualcomm CDMA based patents. No matter what technology they use. OK one important exception. 4G LTE and ouch guess what? Yep its not a CDMA based technology yet is stuck using Qualcomm patents a plenty/

Snapdragons continue to fill my wallet with cold hard cash. Every week I get to go in2 labs to see wots in development.

I continue to hear talk at each stage of new versions about the possibilities of more speed with the same software and I also hear laffs re software limitations but frankly that is NOT NOT my area of expertise.

There is a group doing demos on Snapdragons of the future ready for HD TV's of what they call the future which means no current TV on market can keep up with it. I once upon a tyme had expertise in the most advanced Video Displays and only DOD could afford to pay for such but that is now years ago. Of course DOD still has stuff that is way past consumer HD TV but I no longer get details or demos.

Funny how this is all coming about - Intel a company I once had HUGE respect4 and I bet my own money on them once upon a tyme. But they tied future to MicroShit eh - Recently a huge shakeup and lots of people fired at Intel re Atom - Now Intel is working with Google for inside speed on Android... yep -

Of course Microshit saw the light and made Win 8 compatible with Android - They did that b4 Atom had internal meltdown of management -

So the deal is re Atom currently - Its just like all the other Intel CPU's - You can program it to do just about anything EXCEPT there is a world of stuff it cannot do that Snapdragon's do

Atom is a CPU and requires a number of other chips to do the Modem & RF & Bluetooth stuff so if you just look at power budget of Atom its far more better then Intel of the past - but it requires so much chip support

Someone might think I am prejudiced re Qualcomm but keep in mind that Qualcomm pays a huge bunch of money to use ARM because that is British patent technology.

Basic difference is not just the ARM part - Its the Mixed Digital/Analog ASIC with ARM that makes Snapdragons in any application... Rock Rock Rock -

I find it odd that Intel has held firm like the Republicans hold firm on Obama care n plans to back door kill it.

For years n years Intel and IBM made the Qualcomm chips (in recent past) cause "Q" is a fab less company. So its not like Intel had no clue as they watched the Billions of bucks in orders flow in for ASIC/ARM and yet stuck with general purpose do anything except Mixed Analog/Digital

Cellphones take in Analog of voice n spit out RF and they take RF in and convert to digital and display n spit out Analog voice.

Bottom line is that even if Intel continues to make Atom or some other battery efficient chip - Until they provide 90% of guts on one Chip for a cell phone - Seems to me they cannot expect to end up as a winner in the portable market - When I say phone of course I mean anything that is hand held/battery powered

And its not just one chip is more better then multiple chips - Its not just that its cheep to make that way - Its also that at super high speeds the interconnect to other chips is messy and expensive and inefficient. Also more chips you have the lower the MTBF you have.

It's only a matter of time before Intel makes an all-in-one chip to compete with Snapdragon. You should write a book about your experiences in the industry. I've got a pretty good decoder ring developed for your idiosyncratic syntax, I could decode/edit it for you.

I will do as you asked which I may just do on MS Word so I can do it in bits n symbols (inside pun) and put up as topic by Tue or worst case Wed.

Its rare I think much about stuff from Chan posts I do - When out n about - However when I replied to the Apple post and name dropped a Mike It got me to thinking about how much the technology wayyyyy back then on clutter tracking and Imaging Radar had a huge influence on the future of phones in cars then on people. I have had that convo with Mike over the years. Don't see him often except about once every other year at Thanksgiving.

Qualcomm did give formal credit to Actress Hedy Lamarr in a Video they produced for in house use. U.S. Patent 2,292,387 back in 1942 was granted to her and a neighbor for Frequency Hopping. Spread Spectrum and it was a concept to prevent jamming radio controlled torpedoes to keep Germans from messing with USA. Idea came from of all things a Piano roll player.

One jumps forward to 60's where Radar instead of just finding objects ends up being used to locate stuff inside a mess of Noise and its discovered that to do that YOU end up making the Radar signal itself look like noise. Spread it over a super wide range of frequencies and to the enemy its just Bits of noise for an instant.

Then its discovered that if you take that man made noise and put it on photo film - you can actually see objects you scanned as real photos.

Then later someone says - Hey lets hide voice communications the same way so spies no see transmissions - and later its realized that its not just the hiding that works so super well - You do that and its discovered a whole new world of Communications Traffic Efficiency

Next tyme I see Mike I got to ask why HE Never ended up in Cell technology - Or hummmmm perhaps he has LoL - Funny how he used to kid me about why I wanted no part of the computer bizz and its funny how that computer bizz only made it recently for the company he co-founded cause of Cell technology.
