In my observation, they want experienced, qualified, native English speakers, but they are not willing to pay them enough, or they misrepresent what the job involves. Thus, they cannot keep teachers.
Running a school is certainly a difficult task, and of course they want to maximize profit (which is the point of a business), and to help their students to succeed (which should be the point of a school).
But for the amount of work that teachers have to do, they are offering wages such as less than 100 RMB per hour, etc. They just do not seem to understand what it takes to attract permanent talent.

In my opinion, the bottom line is that professional, certified, qualified, experienced teachers, are in the same market as stoner-backpackers who happen to speak English. Schools want to pay the lowest amount possible, so we must compete against them. C'est la vie, I guess.

This school's name was Big Mouth English School before. I guess now is Bright Star English School(both training center and kindergarten). They are a large chain of schools here in Kunming. They are totally dishonesty people. No respect for western culture at all.
They will screw you over.

100 RMB/HR = $16.35 US Dollar/HR which as OP said (speaking for Fatfuck) the schools will not pay.
The schools actually pay about $10.47/hr.
The problem is its always far less then 40 hours a week. For a while he was making home made sausage to pay his rent on his one light bulb hovel with a hole in floor for the toilet.
OP Thanks as I do not look at that 4um daily - I see Miller is on a roll there - So he ends up being in the 10% if qualified to teach English because his degree is in French.

While taking part of recruitment process for private schools in Kunming and seeing a good number of CV's, I can tell that the number of qualified, certified, professional, experienced teachers in Kunming was less than 10% out of all those I had the chance to meet. Ok, I did not see them all, clearly. But isn't that already a quite good overview ? Or maybe I might have been very unlucky to only get in touch with natives but not what I'd call a qualified, certified, professional, experienced teacher.
You can name about 5, ok but 5 out of how many ? How many so called teachers (Dazzer?) do you know are teaching without being "real" teachers ? That's what I'm interested in."

Btw, I know quite well about the crappy situation in kmg.
Schools paying low, no quality control or even consideration about quality education, money oriented instead of education oriented, and so on.
OP the best part of that topic comes from a Manager who hires teachers in Kunming

Well Toadman aka Fatfuck did get to Beijing and quickly picked up Tuberculosis. Stuck in a hospital he described as arwful unkempt conditions. Pay is more better in Beijing but the cost of living is also much higher. Because the smog was horrific he could not remain and ended up getting a teaching job in Kunming a city at the bottom of the list of cities for expats to move to.
I worked/traveled the world for a living and it was just FUCKING TERRIFIC American company paying me a huge wage and wot I found funny was that on some assignments I would get double or triple my salary cause the US Embassy declared those places dangerous. Colombia payed a fucking fortune but it was so bad you had to live in a guarded fenced compound n were not allowed to wander in2 any city. I said NO NO to that assignment.
Russia for instance was terrific and I never felt a moment of unsafe- One day I asked a Russian who I was working with if he ever felt unsafe. He said sure - To many poor people and lots of crime but during daylight hours he knew he was a-ok to walk the streets - But never at night ALONE
Someone from the Russian Mafia approached me and welcomed me and said Hey if anyone bothers you - Just call on one of us for protection and help. They are easy to spot in Russia - Very visible.
The End travel on other peoples money is the way to go and I bet there are decent places for a teaching job, but one has to be smarter then Matt aka Fatfuck to get them.

I believe I have a good idea why not. Matt grew up where everyone speaks a form of creole French aka Cajun.
So they wood have laffed at any French he used. In his own city that might laff as he learned a more better version of French. French with a southern accent is is is well it is.
