We're in pretty bad terms as of the moment, but I didn't make this decision in the rush of anger. It's just something that I always had in mind. I guess my dad is out of the question here. You always end up hating your roommates, trust me on this one, especially if you're going to living in a place with a small surface area (I.e. An apartment).

If this is your first time moving out here are my tips (as someone who has constantly switched between living at home and living on my own/with roommates):

1. Don't move in with your friends.
2. DO NOT move in your friends (it will end badly).
3. Keep all of your money out of sight and on person at all times if you can't you should have it in a locked container hidden in your room.
4. Buying groceries together as roommates is the best way to go, if you buy your own food your roommates or their friends will eat your food.
5. Make sure that if you have split any bills between your roommates (Water, Gas, Electricity, Internet, etc.) that the bills be in a place where you and all the house mates can view and review them at anytime.
6. Don't lend money to your roommates.
7. Any objects of yours that are of a personal value to you that are broken by someone else in house is your own fault, make sure to put them in a safe place (I.e. Laptop, iPod, makeup, clothes).
8. The initial cost of living by yourself is VERY expensive, most landlords want a deposit (a once off payment) and first months rent up front on the first day of moving into the property. Deposit is usually of equal value to the first months rent. If you are working through a real estate agent they expect the value of the first months rent of the property as payment for their services. E.g. Rent is $200 a month, the deposit will also be $200, and if you have gone through a real estate agent then that's another $200.
9. If you are paying you own bills then be aware that sometimes there is a once off re-connection/deposit fee that may have to be paid for some bills. Last year I had to pay $200 to get my gas reconnected and another $200 to reconnect my electricity. Most companies will give you this money back once you decide to move/leave/get evicted, but you have to ring the company up to tell them your leaving of course.
10. Make sure to take meter readings for gas, electricity, etc once you move in or out of the house.

To be honest I can't see you living on your own for very long unless you get some sort of job, even with a part time job you should still be able to move out and have a good time.

Stay at home unless you are being abused or your relationship is toxic. You will grow up a lot faster on your own, but at 17 you risk being taken advantage of.

Live at home as long as possible and save your money. Trust me when I say what problems you have now (unless you are being abused emotionally or physically) are worth not having to dig through couch cushins to buy some microwave ramen so you can eat that day since you still have to wait two more days for your paycheck.

You should have 6 months worth of expenses saved up (rent, food, transportation -- the essentials). You definitely should have no less than 3 months saved up.

That said, a male friend is better than a female friend. Women love to fight over stupid shit with other women.
