Hurt burglars? What shite. If somebody comes on to my property looking to steal all of my hard-earned possessions, they're fair bloody game I say. If they cut themselves on a window wire, they shouldn't have been there in the bloody first place, it's their one fault for a start.
Basically the government is saying "Burglary is inevitable, so with this we'll help make things as comfortable as possible for the burglar. The poor lamb".

Under Animal Welfare laws, it is illegal to sell pets to anybody under the age of 16. Another factor in the decision to place her in house arrest with a curfew is the fact that she caused unnecessary suffering to a cockatiel by failing to provide appropriate care and treatment after council officers noticed the bird in the shop in need of veterinary care with a broken leg. It had to be put down because it was so injured. She was investigated in the first place because they sold a gerbil to another 14 year old, a girl with learning difficulties, without the presence of a parent or guardian.
It's completely irresponsible to sell animals to people who aren't old enough to care for them properly.

A fine and/or shutting down the shop would have made sense. Tagging + house arrest is just ridiculous given the crime.

You shitting me? That's clearly worse than not letting her out of the house before 7AM and after 7PM. She got away with complete disregard for the health of animals pretty lightly, to be honest. I would have put her in prison.

Shutting down the shop is appropriate and makes sense, because that's what she used to do the crime. And as you said, she's clearly terrible with animals. Again, tagging her and house arrest were completely innapropriate punishments, considering the crime.

It was a family business - it would be punishing her children and her children's children for her infraction.
I'm against fines on principle, they're just a method of revenue gain. She was fined, anyway. Around £1,500 including council legal fees, I believe.

It's a pretty good method of light punishment imo. She broke the law and has to pay for that, and inconviniencing her in this way is a great method for punishing someone old like that.
Maybe it would be shut down if they infringed again, who knows.
