Corporations have shareholders, or a private owner who can do any manner of things with that type of money, but what does a private university do?

Sparing no cost in buildings, and conducting plenty of research is expensive, but even after that there is plenty of money.

Research equipment, like physics labs, high-tech classrooms, payraises or faculty, recruitment of great faculty, international recruitment of students, etc.
