Nice to hear you are still around man, well, we are living tough times economically. On the bright side, the affordable care act is about to become a reality, so paying 100,000 dollars for a broken arm is no longer a worry, and the job market is supposed to improve next year (if Obama doesn't try to go to war with Syria)

@previous (B)Well, it is quite extensive. But in a nutshell, countries with universal healthcare systems have (there is no exception to the rule, at all) way cheaper (even private) medical care than ones that don't (the extra tax that will be paid is nothing compared to what Americans pay to crooked HMOs that don't even cover treatments making preexistence condition), while still having and even improving quality and promptitude in the service, and the basic reason why is because Governments have HUGE leverage when negotiating contracts for medical supplies, equipment and pharmaceuticals (drugs) because they order them to be provided to hundreds of millions of persons, no company wants to lose a contract like that, and they literally fight to find a way to provide an affordable product/solution while still having quality and being safe (otherwise they could be sued for millions or billions of dollars if in breach of contract, or a class suit from a group), also leverage when negotiation collective hospital contracts for nurses, doctors and staff (the illusion that Medicine and human health should be a trillion dollar enterprise is essentially only found in America), and other consequences will be that HMOs, if they want to survive, will stop the monkey businesses they've been doing for the last 40 years, and decreasing their prices dramatically and immediately.
Plus, everybody, sooner or later, will need some type of expensive treatment, and right now 70 to 80 percent of American people that get cancer, a chronic condition or a heart condition, either get into huge debt or bankruptcy because of it. And well, IMO, that is just not fair.
With a universal healthcare system, everybody takes care of everybody and everybody will need it at some point in their lives. Ya feel me?

Isn't it more like the Government meeting the insurers half-way by lowering the prices slightly but having them cover vastly more customers giving them higher profits while mandating that I pay them each and every month regardless of my health?
Does anybody even fully understand this healthcare act and the implications or is it all hopes and dreams that will be crushed by the reality that, in America, healthcare is a business and not a human right?

Also, what will happen when a homeless person breaks their arm and doesn't have a required-by-law health insurance plan?
Ok I learned there is a fine for not having insurance, but only if you earn enough to have to file taxes. there are also some other expemptions, basically saying if you are poor the mandate doesn't effect you.
