Topic: My turtle bit my lip off

Anonymous A started this discussion 13 years ago #31,176

He looks all cute and innocent, but the joker bit my lip and wouldn't let go! When I finally got him to let go, he had blood all in his mouth. It was my blood. I ran to the bathroom to see that it was bleeding very badly and a huge piece of my lip was torn off. It hurt so bad! It feels like I got beat up by my best friend. It's all swollen and still bleeding a little bit. Pic related, it's my pet turtle looking all innocent, but he is not. :/

Maybe you should release him into the ocean so he can be with his fellow turtles, instead of keeping him cooped up in a glass cage.

No way. 1st of all, these turtles are not ocean turtles, they are freshwater turtles. If I released him into freshwater, there's a high chance he wouldn't survive because people around here actually eat turtles.

Apparently, the turtles around there actually eat people too.

No, he must've felt threatened somehow and decided to bite. I've had him for 7 years. This has never happened before. He even makes sure he doesn't bite my fingers when I hand feed him. I'm still shocked to this very second that he bit me.

With your tongue?

I was outdoors with the turtle. He got in a lot of mud and I was hosing him with the pipe. When I held him in the sun to get him dry, he was near my mouth and decided to extend his neck to the right and bite my lip.

Is your lip ok, or do you have like, a chunk missing?

And do turtles transmit disease?

Uh-oh. I didn't think about the disease part yet, but they do carry salmonella. It's likely I already had that from him, though. It's not that bad, just a lot of vomiting and shitting. The lip is fine now. It's just swollen still.

What's wrong with you, you psychopath?

Diseases don't generally carry across species. (The ones that do are fucking dangerous though, and there are some crazy exceptions.) If you have regularly been in close contact with your pet turtle, then you probably have already been exposed to whatever you might have been exposed to by him biting you. So probably not much to worry about...

I would never do that, fool. My turtle is an awesome friend, besides the fact that he bit the shit out of my lip.@previous (C)
@previous (C)
That's why I'm not that worried. I'm sure he has had salmonella at least once in his lifetime or will have it. They go to disease ridden to disease free every now and then. I'll be fiiine.
