I think intervention in Syria is probably a good thing, but I don't think the US is in any place to start handling more war in the Middle East. The Bushes launched their Middle Eastern wars under (fairly) good economies. Unfortunately we're still suffering the repercussions of that. I just don't think the economy can take anymore government blank-check war spending and wartime profiteering. We're going to have to wait until someone tackles domestic problems with an actual solution that isn't "let them die" or "pack the prisons" before we can play at being a world power again.
...or not. China has apparently enjoyed a good deal of success by spending money spying on everything their citizens do and imprisoning them. What the fuck do I know?

China's skyrocketing growth is unsustainable, but they are smart enough to spend money on things like infrastructure instead of toppling regimes. We could have had god knows how many new schools or roads or bridges or lower taxes or "free" healthcare instead of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. Thousands of young American men and women would still be alive, thousands more would not have been injured. Hundreds of thousands of Iraqi and Afghanistani civilians would not have had their lives ruined.
