Topic: Is it worth it getting 1600 mhz RAM?

doctor dw md !jdTkvovFCQ started this discussion 13 years ago #30,976

My previous sticks broke so I am getting new ones, I'm getting 8 GB but is it worth it to pay more for 1600 mhz instead of 1333 mhz? I use my pc mostly for gaming, illustrator and photoshop.

Gaming maybe a difference... but betting you do not notice any difference. Its only money for a few % of difference.

In no way wood you see wot you see if you overclock the same percentage.

the question appears to be moot as somehow the 1333mhz 2x4GB ram is more expensive than the 1600mhz 2x4GB ram!

I shall buy Crucial(r)Ballistix(tm)240-pin DIMM DDR3 PC3-12800 Quality(tm) RAM!

For illustrator and photoshop the faster RAM is definitely worth it. Time is money, and waiting for those programs to process just adds up.

Can you afford 16 GB? Go for as much as possible. It really aids in productivity.

As someone with 16GB Corsair(r) Vengeance(tm) 1600MHz I can vouch that it does in fact

Yes it does. Every modern OS will build filesystem caches in memory that greatly decrease task switching delays and latency of loading various libraries.

I've worked with the Adobe Creative Suite professionally for 7 years. I also did a ton of scanning and management of digital library assets.

Ok, i looked it up and 16GB 1333mhz starts at around 100 euros, and i don't think my pc is worth that upgrade really.

@OP
it only matters if your fsb speed also goes up
like running 1333mhz in a laptop thats capable of 1600mhz will give you a 'slower' laptop because the fsb speed isnt optimal
if however the max speed of your motherboard is 1333mhz your 1600mhz will just run at 1333mhz

Or course you need the memory. You're running 3 of the most demanding apps out there. Gaming is always a more is better situation. And the two apps you mentioned are programmed by Adobe, who to anyone who's ever used Flash knows, you wouldn't say they were a company of efficient coders.
