Well at least since I played Doom, and before that the DOS command line game Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, and before that the pinball machines at Weird Willy's in the 70's.

What might be a good beginners game?

Are you okay with shooting things? Do you prefer shooting people, monsters, zombies, etc? Do you like roleplaying and story based missions? Have you ever tried nation building or people building games like the Sims, Rollercoaster Tycoon, or Caeser?

I played Doom, and that was a lot of fun, i was addicted for awhile. I've only played sims a few times, but I do think I would like a role playing type game. I just don't want to get into anything too technical or difficult at first.

Also, I've heard that these are potential safeguards against Alzheimer's. a recent article said gaming might have more of an effect than crosswords and such.

Well for a shooting game,how about trying the first or second Bioshock? On easy mode you respawn in the same place that you died.
