I got a, um, roku box for last christmas. It's neat. Streams netflicks and youtube and even HBOgo if you have that. Has a tedTV station which is neat at first.
Half the stuff I could already do with my computer hooked up to the tv. So it'd be worth it if you wanted youtube on a tv and you dont have a spare computer. Or like amazon movies and stuff.

This is something slightly different, it streams content from the PC to the TV and that seems to be about it. That is, the most popular feature of the AppleTV that only works well with macs. My old work place would've loved this thing, but instead they all got AppleTVs and only the mac people could use them.
