They are selling for really cheap, like $75 sometimes. My Wii is a media POWERHOUSE! I'd probably have to build a $400 box to compete with the things the cheap little Wii does. I have it set up with an 80 GB external hardrive, on that I have like 25-30 movies, THOUSANDS of games and like 7 different emulators, and like 120 regular Wii games. In addition to all that, the Wii is capable of streaming apps like Netflix, Youtube, Amazon, and Hulu. Softmodding a Wii is pretty simple, and I guess you could get a complete setup for around $150, I can't think of a cheaper way to accomplish everything the Wii does. Thinking of how much use that thing gets, it's probably one of the best purchases I've made in the last few years.

That's quite cool actually. I figured they were pretty useless.

I thought the same until I got it all set up. It was a little bit of a bitch to set it all up, but wow is it cool now.

Thank you! And yeah, I put like 3-4 different bowling games on there. I also enjoy the golf games. I use it more for movies and streaming than anything else though.

Dude how is this done? I'd jizz myself if I could use emulators on my TV. And is it powerful enough to emulate a PSone or N64? Also, is it backwards compatible with the Gamecube? Some awesome games on that, F-zero, Metroid Prime, The Metal Gear Solid remake etc

What if I already have a Wii? I've been meaning to soft mod it for some time now, but I'm too afraid I'll brick it.
@previous (Fluffy !HCpO4h0pF.)
Yes, it's backwards capable with the GameCube. This console seemed to come at a time when this was a major feature in most consoles. Now companies just want you to rebuy the games you already paid for it seems.

I started with that tutorial. I ordered an external USB and used an SD card I had laying around, then just dove in. It was pretty easy if you just follow the steps to the letter. Uhm, I'll post which external USB I bought in a bit, some have compatibility issues, others are just overpriced.
Yes, it's backwards compatible with the Gamecube, it even has ports for GameCube controllers. You'd definitely need GameCube controllers to play PS1 games and such (more buttons than a Wiimote).

Bricking devices only happens when you can't follow simple instructions exactly, or if you're messing with alpha/beta releases. I've modded/rooted etc everything I could without a single issue. Follow that tutorial I posted and you'll be fine.

I bought a Western Digital Passport 80 GB external hard drive, but I can't find the exact model on Amazon atm. You can use this compatibility list to pick a external HDD that's compatible and suits your needs. I wish I had bought a larger external hard drive, but I wasn't sure how it was gonna work out so I didn't want to spend too much. http://wiki.gbatemp.net/wiki/USB_Devices_Compatibility_List

I barely play the Wii games, most are pretty meh. Without being modded the Wii sucks, hence this topic, a cheap media powerhouse.
