Terrible osteoarthritis, especially in his shoulders. Which I have inherited and will need shiny new knees before I hit 50, probably.

When it kicked in it gave me the motivation to not be a lazy fatass anymore. Just not running. Even when the weather's stable running is bad.

Try doing anything involving human movement that doesn't involve shoulder movement. Even lifting a leg while sitting in a chair uses muscles that pull on the shoulders. There is a reason shoulder replacement surgery involves seriously long recovery periods.

At least knees are easy. Mine are shot, but I hope I can salvage my shoulders... no pain yet. Just a hip, both knees, and some in my hands but less inflamation since switching to finger styles on my guitars.
