I'm usually quite shocked and disapproving when he actually does the stuff, especially the casual arson. It's afterwards once he's not doing it that I start to "gee" on him a bit. Also what TTEH said, at least about the shitting.

If I ever thought he was about to die or seriously injure himself, I'd call the police. He's burned some books and fedoras, but never intentionally set about to burn down his flat. He's a little insane, but he doesn't have a death wish.

It just seems that this place may be his only social contact and that he plays up to the for a, somewhat. He is clearly in a bad place. His irrational acts, the state of his flat and his self harm reminds me of myself a few years back, and I ended up taking an overdose.

He also goes to 420chan. They only encourage his behaviour, though.
I doubt there's a great deal we can do anyway, clearly the man has deeper issues than some positivity or lack of attention from us could fix. It seems that he's scared away all of his friends and family, and is in serious legal trouble.
